How to Teach Your Child About Money Saving

June 1, 2020 By Karen 1 Comment

In today’s generation, life and living is no longer as simple and uncomplicated as it was during our childhood days. It is very important to teach our children values and lessons that will save them from hardship when they grow up and stand on their own feet. One of the best way to help our kids build their future is to teach them how to save money. Teach them on wisely spending and other techniques so they can appreciate the value and essence of saving money.

Saving Money Activities for kids

•Money as a reward. Give them a glimpse of how money as a reward works. Example, give them tasks to sweep the floor, to water the plants, or clean the table after meal time. Give them money as a reward in successfully doing some weekly chores you listed for them. As early as 3-5, they will experience that money should be hard earned and should be valued.

•Money in a jar. Each time they earn money from chores or when someone gives it, make them equally devide the money to placenit in 2 jars (for wants and for needs). Each time they want to buy little kiddie stuffs like chocolate or candy, they can get the money from wants. On the other hand, when they need to buy something they think they really need, they can get from the other jar. Explain to them that saving is a very good means to get what they want or need as long as they keep their head on it.

•Goal for savings. Let them set goals like a storybook they really like to have, and set that as their main goal to save so that they will be motivated.

•Prioritizing and budgeting. When going to the mall to buy stuffs, let them have limited money and make them choose to what they want. Each time they get something, ask them if that is really2 needed. In the end, they should be able to get what they like or need the most and eliminate those that are just tempting to the eyes.

•Teach them about contentment. Make your kids see that as long as they have what they need and maybe a few of what they want, they should be contented. Spending money just because you have it is a big No No. Saving for emergencies and for the future should be discussed as well so your child can have a picture of what he is saving for.

•Be an example. Don’t teach your child to save wisely, then you keep on spending over things you are tempted to buy. Do what you have taught your children and set as a good example of someone who has effective savings plan.

Teaching kids about the value of saving is not really an easy peasy task. It would require patience and contentment to overdlow and avoid spending on things you don’t really need. In the future, once your child is already old enough, he will be come a money-smart person and surely, he will thank you for teaching him that as early as possible.

Why do Babies Twiddle When Breastfeeding?

May 26, 2020 By Karen Leave a Comment

Among all the exciting, fun and essential activities we share with our little one, breastfeeding is one of the most memorable and yet, challenging. During breastfeeding, the bond between the mother and child strengthens in all levels. However, about 85% of breastfed babies do nipple and breast twiddling while nursing. Twiddling refers to fiddling or playing negligently, rotating something idly. Most moms feel very uncomfortable with it, but has chosen to give way for their baby’s benefits.

To understand more as to why babies do twiddling while breastfeeding, here are the reasons and some of the benefits of twiddling that might change mommy’s mind about it.

Why Babies Twiddle

•Twiddling their mommy’s nipple or breast makes it easier for them to concentrate on breastfeeding

•It makes the babies feel more relaxed and comfortable

•Twiddling helps baby to nurse well

•Twiddling makes baby fall asleep much easier

Benefits of Baby’s Twiddling

•When babies twiddle their mother’s nipples, the stimulation causes brain to release hormones called oxytocin which helps increase the mother’s milk production.

•Since twiddling makes babies feel more soothed and relaxed, it makes breastfeeding a lot more easy and less fussy.

•Letdowns of milk happens frequently if baby is twiddling. Thus, emptying breasts more effectively. This is beneficial for mothers in a way that they can avoid having engorgements, clogged ducts and sore breasts.

Even though most mothers consider twiddling as simply annoying part of breastfeeding, there are also mothers who decided to consider making their baby stop breastfeeding because of the discomfort and frustration brought to them by baby’s twiddling, fiddling and even pinching of nipples during breastfeeding. If so, here are some tips that could help your baby to stop twiddling.

How to Make Baby Stop Twiddling

•Attempt to discourage twiddling as soon as baby starts it.

•Keep the opposite breast covered so that baby won’t have easy access to it.

•Give baby something to hold and play with so that his hands will be kept busy.

•Gently pull away and hold his hands during feeding to discourage him from twiddling.

Breastfeeding journey can only be successful if mommy and baby works on it together. It is important that both will be able to think possitively about breastfeeding. If mommy feels way too uncomfortable on breastfeeding, then she must decide what will be the best feeding method to work on. But of course, as a breastfeeding momma, I hope every momma will be able to make the best out of it and succeed on their breastfeeding journey.

Is It Safe to Use Regular Detergents for Baby’s Clothes?

May 15, 2020 By Karen Leave a Comment

If you or your partner do have family history of skin allergies or skin easily gets irritated, it is mostly advised not to use regular detergents and even fabric conditioner in washing your newborn or infant’s clothes, as it might trigger the rashes and allergies. These are what dermatologist would suggest. They would usually recommend using detergents and fabric softeners that are safe for your baby.

However, if you don’t seem to have any history of allergies and skin problems, you have tried and everything goes well for you and your baby, then maybe you can just use it with moderation of how many times you should rinse the clothes. In this article, let’s discuss more about the options we have that are safe for baby if ever he is extra sensitive about it.

Recommended and Safe Products

If your baby is a very sensitive one and he would easily get rashes, allergies and eczema over the regular detergent and fabric conditioner that you had been using for years now, that’s because the little baby can’t stand the chemicals that are used to clean the fabric. However, with the very up to date technology that we have in this generation, doctors would just recommend to use hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested products such as Downy Baby Gentle and Deft Stage 1. These products are specifically developed for baby’s sensitive skin.

What Baby Stuffs Should be Washed in it?

•Baby Clothes (Shirts, Onesie, frogsuits, pajamas)

•Sheets, pillow cases, blankets

•Wash Cloth, towels and burp rags

•swaddles, baby carrier wrap

•mittens, bibs, booties or socks and hats

•cloth diapers

You can even include his favorite cloth toys, and just about everything that your baby would be using and holding daily.

What to Consider When Buying Baby’s Laundy Detergent?

•Choose powder or liquid detergent for baby rather than bars. Personally, i like powders because they seem to perform better especially in removing dirts.

•Plant-Based Products. Although there is no guarantee that they won’t trigger allergies, plant-based products has lower risk.

•Should be free from dye and fragrance. The lesser the irritants present on the product, the better. What’s important is that it cleans your baby’s clothes.

•No brighteners. Brighteners are chemicals added to make the clothes seem to look brighter. Again, chemicals are not good for baby’s sensitive skin.

After 2-3 years of being careful in using traditional detergent for baby’s skin, try to re-evaluate. Use a little of regular detergent in your kid’s clothes and check if they have reactions. Be sure to rinse thoroughly though. If you think your baby is already ready to switch to regular detergent, then why not.

Why You Shouldn’t Spend So Much on Baby Clothes

May 13, 2020 By Karen Leave a Comment

It sure is lovely to look at babies who are wearing cute and fancy clothings. People around you will be able to notice the cuteness of your baby and his fashion. It would seem as though it gives us pride and make us feel proud as parents. But today, let me tell you something that may change your outlook towards that. We will discuss the down side of spending too much on baby’s clothes. Let’s see if these facts outnumbers the benefits that there on this matter.

•Outgrowing Fast

Babies grow about 1/2 to 1 inch monthly and doubles his birth size by the time he reaches 5months old. Imagine, if you spend so much on his newborn clothes when in fact he doesn’t spend so much time in going out, there is a possibility that he’ll just be able to wear his clothes once or twice (or never) before he outgrows them. In a blink of an eye, they can no longer fit the clothes they once used to look good into.

•Little Kids Can be Messy Too

Imagine going into a very important birthday party. Of course, here’s your little one looking so gorgeous in his suit and tie. But then, he innocently touched the icing of the cupcake on the table and got it messed all over his clothes. That ruined your plan for a picture-perfect event.

It takes so much attention to keep your baby 100% tidy especially by the time they start moving around, grabbing whatever will caught their curiousity. Instead of getting something expensive for your baby to wear, opt for those that are comfortable. I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy expensive clothes for your baby, but it’d be more worth it if you spend just right for it.

•Expensive Clothes Doesn’t Guarantee Best Quality

Being a mom of two, i realized that the clothes i bought for lower price tends to last the same as those that are expensive. Sometimes, the price of the clothes isn’t really an assurance that it is of best quality and durability. Sometimes, it matters on how well you have taken care of those clothes too.

•Save for What’s More Needed

Let’s say you bought your baby a tux that priced trice more than the cute formal attire you saw in the mall. Don’t you think it would be better if you buy him the formal attire and use the extra money to buy shoes and socks that would complete his OOTD? Well, it’s all about practicality. But if you can really afford to have it all, then why not.

•Compare Prices From Different Sellers

Let’s say you saw a baby dress that really caught your attention and you have your mind and heart set for it already no matter if it’s quite expensive. Wait, don’t rush in buying it right then and there. Try to look online or from other stores and boutiques for the same item and see who has the most affordable price. It sure is time consuming but if you are really after for the best outcome, then here you go, well done!

Sure thing, mommies would really want to provide what would be best for their little one even if that means we’d be spending a little more. But for me, it will be wiser to save your extra money to for the educational toys and learning materials that will be more valuable for the baby’s future. Yet, if you have saved more than enough and you really want to spend the money to buy your little one expensive clothes, then that doesn’t make you any less than any other mom. If you think that’s best for you and your baby, then go for it with no regrets.

How to Get Your Firstborn Ready for a Sibling

May 13, 2020 By Karen Leave a Comment

The moment you find out you are having your baby number 2, you might’ve been excited thinking about telling your husband, thinking about your growing family or imagining your firstborn playing with your newborn. But before you jump off to that, have a plan too as to when are you going to tell the big news to the soon to be big sister/brother. After all, he or she will be one of those who will be affected with the big change that’s about to come.

How Soon Should You Tell Him/Her that Another Baby is on the Way?

For me, it would be better if you start telling him that he’s going to have a little sibling soon and the baby is inside your tummy before you tell everybody else. The earlier you tell him, the longer he’ll have time to gasp what’s going on before the baby arrives. And aside from that, I’m sure you don’t want him to find it out from anybody else aside from you, right?

How to Get Him Ready for His Sibling

•Educate him about the newborn baby

Take time to explain to him that the new baby will be a very precious and little human. Delicate and sensitive. Educate him of what he needs to be careful about like the soft spot in the baby’s head, and that the baby still don’t have a full control with his neck and head. To further give him what to imagine, show to him his old pictures when he’s still a newborn so that he will be able to picture out.

•Read storybooks about siblings or let him watch cartoons about siblings

By this, he will be able to adjust his emotions on what’s about to come. He will have an idea on how to behave and how he can be of help when little brother or sister is already around.

•Daddy-Time

Make sure that before the baby arrives, daddy gets to spend more time with your firstborn. Make it a regular part of the daily routine so that your firstborn will not have a hard time when mommy’s attention will be focused to the new baby. At least he got daddy with him and they have started establishing the bond already.

•Equality between siblings

Even if your hands and head are so full with the newborn already that you don’t have much time to bond with your firstborn, make him understand that your love is ever just the same. Nothing can ever change that. But as of the moment, everyone is till under adjustmant of having the little newborn. Find the most conforting words as you explain this one.

•Practice-Play

Give your firstborn his first assignment as an older sibling. Rehearse playing with him like dancing and singing for the baby, gently holding the hands, watching the baby when mommy needs a second to grab something. Prepare him by practicing being a good big brother or sister.

•Constant Reminding

Remind him always that the baby is very sensitive and delicate. He needs to be extra careful and gentle in moving around the baby. Tell him some do’s and don’ts and explain to him everything so he will take it by heart.

It’s never really easy how to handle two or more kids at the same time. You need to adjust your pace for each and everyone. It needs a lot of patience too especially if the firstborn wants to explore. But if you extend your understanding and patience, do lots of sacrifices, together with the help of your partner and loved ones, everything will all be working just great. Good luck mommy!
