As soon as our baby starts moving around more independently, we get more and more excited for the things they could learn such as crawling, talking and walking. We would always want to make sure that we witness their progress and be their to give them their much needed support and guidance.
Among these milestones, walking is one of the most awaited and yet the one which needs our full attention and support because of the possibility that our liitle one might stumble and fall as he practice learnining how to walk by himself. As parents, how do we make sure that we extend our helping hands and guide our baby learn how to walk? How can we motivate and encourage them as they learn? Here are some tips:
•Support and Encourage Your Baby
When your baby turns 8 months old, he starts pulling himself up and try to stand with the help of the things around him. He will hold on to furnitures and walls. What you can do is show to him how he can bend his knees so he can get back to the floor. That will give him confidence and he will be at ease, feeling he will have less tendency of falling.
•Practice is the Key
- Let him practice walking with your support. Hold both of his hands so he can balance himself as he take those first few steps. Soon enough, he will begin to let go of your hands when he feels he is already in control.
•Cruising Inside the House
Let him cruise from walls to furnitures to you, back to the wall. Let him practice little by little. Make sure you prepare a rubber mat or a soft landing spot incase he would fall off.
Balancing is one big part for his success in learning how to walk. Practice balancing in a fun way to encourage him. Soon, once he is confident already that he has control of his balance, he will start taking steps.
•Reward that Little One
Give him lots and lots of praises or reward him if possible whenever your baby makes effort in taking steps. You can sit on the floor in front of him and guide him as he explores his way. You can also try holding his favorite toy as you sit about 2 meters away from him. It will encourage him to try his best and get to you so he can have the toy.
It is important to give our support to our little one as they get to the process of learning. Even babies feel a lot more confident everytime they feel that they are supported as they take their first few steps. Help him with this new adventure he is about to take. After all, its true when they say “every journey begins with a single step.”, so be there for him as he successfully take those little baby steps.
