In normal days, after the busy days of our kids from school, after a long day at the office, we usually allow our children to use gadgets in watching youtube videos, tablets for gaming or even use the family TV for entertainment. We allow them to pass the time with it. But Right now, in the middle of this tragic situation that we got because of this Pandemic called Corona Virus, it is said that the avarage time the kids spend on screentime everyday has climbed up to a total of 8-10 hours per day. This is what they call the New Normal. But of course, as parents, we are aware of the downside of using gadgets and too much screen time.
Since we are also responsible in correcting these habits, how much screen time should we allow our children to enjoy? And what can we do to help them minimize using gadgets while having fun? Here’s the answer.
According to a Family Doctor, kids who are below 18 months should not be allowed to use smartphones and gadgets. Children from 2-10 years old should only be given around 1-2 hours of screentime while teenagers and adults should not be having more than 4 hours of screentime on a daily basis. Today, since our children has more time spent at home being in a quarantine, I’m sure lots of mommies have allowed their children to enjoy gadget more than the usual.

Perhaps, children’s access to smartphones, gadgets and digital devices would really be inevitable these days. Maybe we can limit the screen time, but we can never take it away from them for the rest of their lives. But what can we do to keep our children entertained without screentime is to get more engaged with them.
Start young. Since you have more time to spend with your toddler and youngsters these days because of quarantine, spend it wisely by fun indoor activities. Research for some ways on how to keep their hands off the phone. Maybe you can do chores together too, let them participate with your baking and cooking.
As for the teenagers, find out what they love doing, their hobbies, or what they love to eat. Make time to do stuffs that will keep them interested and entertained at the same time.
It is important for parents to care about the welfare of their children more than just providing pure entertainment and fun for them. Sure thing, we are happy seeing our kids happy too, but of course let us never take their health for garnted or be at risk. Read and research on how to successfully do it, avoid the negative consequences, and you will thank yourself for doing it as early as you can. Way to go mommy!
