Your little one’s OOTD (Outfit Of The Day) will never be complete without a pair of beautiful shoes. During his newborn and infant days, he may wear socks, booties and soft-soled shoes. However, when he starts taking those baby steps, it is best to prepare him for a pair of real shoes he could use. What should we look for and what should be considered in order to choose the best pair of shoes for our toddler? Here are some tips:

•No to Plastic or Metal Locks, Yes to Velcro Tapes and Laced Locks

Velcro tapes and laces are more safe since they just have to be tied or auto fastened, while metal and plastic fasteners may detach and may become choking hazards. Go for laces that are long enough to be double tied to avoid being untangled once the baby grabs it.

•Check the Soles

Go for soles that are flexible, not too smooth and offers good grip. This is helpful to your baby as he is still trying to explore walking. Comfortablility of soles is important to give him confidance to walk and toddle around.

•Go for Shoes Made From Light Materials

Breathable and light materials are considered to be more safe and helpful. Avoid plastic and stiff shoes as these might cause uncomfortability to the baby as he walks or can cause feet development issues too.

•Fit and Squeeze

Let your baby fit the shoes before finally deciding to go for it. Slid your pinky finger into the space between baby’s heel and the shoe’s heel. There should also be enough space between the baby’s tallest toe and the shoe’s front, about the size of your thumb’s width. Try to squeeze the top part of the shoes too when your baby is fitting it. If you can’t grab it, it might be too tight. A considerable space should be given in choosing baby’s shoes. It is important that he will be able to move around with comfort.

In choosing your baby’s shoes, opt for the ones which doesn’t have too much decors too as it might cause choking hazards once detached. Comfortability is one big factor to consider too. If its sole is to stiff or slippery, your baby might have hard time in walking around. Allowance of space is important too since a baby’s feet is rapidly growing. Check the size fit every month.

Baby’s fashion and comfortability should come along together so when you choose your baby’s first walking shoes, choose the best looking and the ones which offers best comfortability and security. After all, a happy feet is owned by happy babies too.
