By the time your baby was born, you might have lost all the Me-time you wanted for yourself, your decent shower time may have only been for 3-5 minutes when your baby is asleep, or the only time you have to clean the house may have only been when your little one is snoozing for a nap. You might have thought things would get easier for you, if only you could get your baby sleep for a longer stretch than he does. Well yes, but the question is, how do we do that? How do we get babies sleep longer than the usual?
Here are some tips that would be very helpful and easy to try and apply:
•Feed the Baby Well Before Going to Sleep
Hunger is one of the main reason why babies tend to wake up and cry during sleep, especially the newborn and infants. If you feed your baby with the right amount of food to make him full before he goes to sleep, it will lessen the chance of him waking up for feeding. It will make his sleep undisturbed for a longer period of time.
•Create Regular Sleeping Routines
Routines are essential to make babies comfortable and more settled. Create a consistent sleeping routine to follow through everyday so that the baby’s bodyclock will be acquainted to it.
•Use Baby Swaddles
When a newborn baby is sleeping, his body tends to have a startle reflex (feeling like falling), and it wakes him up startled. This could be considered as interuption during sleep. Swaddles are thin Muslin cloth used to wrap the baby’s body with hands and legs folded across his body. It makes them feel soothed, comfortable and secured, thus, they tend to sleep more soundly than usual and making them sleep for a longer period of time.
•Changing Diapers Before Feeding and Sleeping
During the night sleep, when it is almost time to feed your baby, change his diapers first. The baby is more likely to sleep immediately after he is fullyfed. If you feed him first before you change his diapers, he might be too awake to go back to sleep by the time you finish changing.
•Put that Sleepy Baby to Bed
When the baby is already in the verge of falling asleep, put him to bed and let him fall asleep by himself. That is a great way to avoid waking him up while trying to put him to bed from your arms. If he is already settled by the time he finally drift to sleep, he will then sleep longer.
Toddlers are more playful and alert already. If you keep them actively awake during the day, by giving them fun activities to try on, it will make them crave for sleep and it is more likely that they will sleep longer by the time they take their nap.
Sleeping has always been a luxury, but you might get deprived of it because of your very active babies. So sleep when you can. If your baby is asleep, take your rest. Eventually, things will fall into place as the baby grows.
