How to Properly Make a Baby Burp?

Why is burping a baby important? After each feeding, it is required to help your baby burp to avoid the excess air he swallowed together with the milk. The air in his tummy could make a baby fussy or cranky since it would give him discomfort. Burping is also a way to make space and get rid of the air inside the tummy so the baby could have a full-meal.

On the process of feeding your baby, make sure that he is properly latching on your breast (if breastfeeding) or to the feeding bottle (if formula-fed), to make sure that he isn’t getting excess air swallowed to his tummy.

Here are the guidelines to properly make your baby burp.

•After feeding your baby, hold him upright against your chest.

•Let his chin rest on your shoulder.

•Properly hold our baby with one arm.

•On your other hand, use your cupped palm to gently pat your baby’s back. Cupped hand is much more gentle in pressure compared to a full palm.

•Do that for a couple of minutes until the baby would release the air through his mouth.

Other Ways to Help Baby Burp:

There are also other ways to help your baby burp. Might as well try them as your baby gets bigger so he could find the position he would like best or he is most comfortable at.

•Let the baby lay on your lap or on a big pillow, on his tummy.

•Make sure that his head is partly elevated that his chest and tummy.

•Gently pat his back until he ia able to burp successfully.

Or

•Let your baby sit upright in your lap.

•Hold his chest and head with one hand for support.

•Make sure to grip his chin and not the throat.

•Use your other hand to pat on the baby’s back to help him release the air from his tummy.

In burping your baby, no matter what position you use, make sure that you properly hold and support your baby to avoid any slips and accidents. If you are breastfeeding, make sure to let him latch on both breasts to ensure full meal.

If your baby always spits and is fussy after feeding, or if he seem to be gassy, burping every 5 minutes is a very big help to relieve that. Making sure that we do what is always helpful and right for our baby is our one big goal as a parent or guardian and burping is always a big part of feeding so make sure to properly burp your baby so he grows and develops properly too.
