Nowadays, it is only natural for parents to consider buying necessary things that can be useful and convenient for babies as they live their day to day routine. But considering those who are on a tight budget and would want to get only what is really needed, parents are often in wonders if these things are really necessary. Among these things, high chair is one of those that are often in question. Is it really needed to buy and let baby use high chair? If not, what can we do so baby will still have comfortable eating sessions? Or what is the main reason why high chair is needed? Well, let’s go ahead and discuss these things.
Why is High Chair Important for Baby?
Most of you may think that high chair is only used so baby can sit and eat confortably. Yes, its true that it is really important so the baby can have a specific space to sit and settle down while eating. But, what you don’t know is that using a high chair plays an important part in training an infant or toddler to the transition of sitting while eating from laying down during feeding when he’s still a newborn up until he was introduced to solid food.
When is the Right Time to Use High Chair?
When baby reaches 6 months old, he will start eating solid foods little by little. Choking and uncomfortable eating may take place if the baby is not properly positioned. So, this is the right time to use high chair. At this age, baby can sit up straight and can bear the weight of his head already. He starts learning things that are part of his routine already.
What to Consider When Getting a High Chair
More that just the appearance, baby’s safety is the number one thing to consider. Make sure that the high chair’s seat is comfortable for the baby. It should have enough space so baby can move comfortably. It should not have rough edges and exposed hinges. It should also have adjustable straps and adjustable seat hieght. The base part should be wide and stable to ensure that it will hold its place properly. If it has wheels, it should also have wheel locks. The table or tray part should be easy to clean also. But there are also high chairs that doesn’t have a tray on it, so baby can eat on the same table as yours.
If you are quite hesitant to use a high chair, you can always opt to just let your baby sit on your lap while eating, but it will be much more hassle and messy. If you are at home, you can settle down with your baby on the clean mats on the floor too while you feed him. But the downside with that is that it will take longer for them to get use to sitting properly in the chair next to the table as they eat. As for me, I didn’t use one with my eldest but I was able to get one for my youngest. After all, it is always your decision that will prevail, so think on what is more beneficial for both you and your baby and go for it.
