When you are a first time mom, you are probably trying to figure out what to do with your baby every minute of the day. When will you bathe, feed, put him to bed? Is it time to play? Should you clean him first before you feed him? As you try to figure things out, i would like to give you a sample routine that you can look into and set as a guide to establish a good daily routine as you start your new journey called parenthood.

Morning Routine

When your baby wakes up from night sleep, feed him first especially if he had stretched hours of sleep. Properly burp him. Put him out of his night clothes, clean him up and spend time to play a little. Keep him awake for fun activities. Feed again and put him to a nap before lunch time.

Nap Time

In the morning, after playtime, baby might feel tired. That is one cue that its time for his nap. Make sure he won’t be going to bed hungry. Establish naptime in the morning and in the afternoon. But with newborns, you won’t have to worry about that since what their first main routine is just sleep, eat, poop, repeat. It’s more likely that they will spend more time sleeping than playing especially after feeding them.

Afternoon

When he wakes up from sleeping, feed him again. Do other stuffs you must like changing full diapers, give him massage once in a while, talk to him and gently play with him. He will likely fall asleep again. Don’t forget to give him a good feeding and burp him before he takes his nap.

Night Time

Before you take baby to bed at night, clean him up so he will feel more relaxed and calm. Change again into night clothes to keep him warm. Keep in mind that to make baby sleep longer, try giving him a massage before going to bed. Use dim lights in bedroom to help him easily differentiate day and night. Do not wake him up to feed him. He will ask for it once he is hungry. You can check his nappy if its full or soiled. Change it only when necessary. Avoid waking him up if it is not needed.

To first time moms, it is not easy to figure things out with little one especially if you never had any idea how to deal with newborns. It is not bad to follow a sample routine, it is not bad to research and ask other mommies for ideas on how to care for your little one. Enjoy everything in it because in no time, your baby will grow up and you will miss every bit of those times when he was still newborn.
