“So what’s your job?” I was asked. “None at the moment, I’m a Stay At Home Mommy.” But then as weeks, months and years go by, the answer to that question shouldn’t really be “NONE”. When you are a SAHM, you do all the work there is inside your home. Cleaning, doing the laundry, preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks (everyday!), bathing the kids, cleaning their mess, taking care of your husband’s needs, just about everything! Yep, it’s so hard to balance everything while taking care of at least 3 people, including yourself, inside the house. So how should SAHM keep their sanity to survive their daily lives? I’ll give you some tips!
•Keep a Daily Routine
It is much easier to move inside the house and keep your work systematized if you have a routine. You will know what to do first, what to do next, until in no time, you will be able to accomplish your tasks. Well that’s if the kids won’t along your way.
•Plan Your Work a Night Before
If you need to do things outside of your daily routine, have things planned a night before. It’s nice to wake up with a plan on what and how to do tasks to keep things in order and still have time to prioritize important things you need to run about. There would be so much things to attend to, so you need to have a plan on what to prioritize in times that you need to break your routine.
•Take a Break and have some Me-Time
Some mommies would say they don’t even have the time to brush their hair anymore. I understand that, and I’m not saying all your free time should be a Me-time. But at least twice a week, consider spending time for yourself alone. When your major chores are done and the kids are asleep, or when everyone retires at night, read your fave magazine, watch nice movies, drink wine, paint your nails, do something that could make you feel good.
•Go Outside Your House
Get some fresh air. Walk around your neighborhood. See other people’s faces. Take the kids to the park. These may be just simple things, but they are very essential to keep your sanity and refresh your mind away from the house chores and away from the four walls of your home. From time to time, it is very refreshing to go out too not just for you but for the kids too.
•Keep Your Hobbies Alive
Hobbies are the things you do not for the sake of doing it, but you enjoy doing, things you would love to do. These are helpful in taking your mind off from daily chores too. Doing something you love for sanity and to keep you happy.
•Joining Mommy Support Groups
Sometimes, when we vent out our stress and emotions to our partner, they won’t understand because they never really tried being in your shoes. Find support from co-mommies. Be it in facebook, in blogs, in social media groups. Just knowing that you are not alone in this journey is a big encouragement. Don’t be afraid to seek for support.
It’s true that being a SAHM is stressful too, you get to stay at home, but your mind and body could feel tired and restless all day long. Don’t forget to take care of yourself when you take care of your love ones too. After all, you play a very important role in keeping your home so keep yourself up and be strong, Momma!
