On his first year of life, your child goes through a lot of development. He would constantly seek for adventure and explore what he can do with his body. He also likes the feeling of moving around and being able to do things on his own. Yet, as parents, it keeps us on a wonder why babies do silly things like walking in a tip toe or standing on his head? Let’s go ahead and discuss these things in an effort of trying to understand our babies more and knowing the purpose of these acts.
Silly Things that Baby Does
•Standing with their head and peeking between their legs
There is truly a different sensation we could feel when we are upside down. The babie’s curiousity would boost up everytime he looks through in between his legs. You might get worried because even if its kinda cute to look at, the positioning of baby’s body is not that nice. However, worry not mommy because this act actually helps your baby in the development of his postural muscles. It helps him develop his balance too. Sontake time and play with him this silly game.
•Walking on a tip toe
It is normal for some babies to walk on toes when they start learning how to walk. Along the way, even little by little, they will start to learn how to do the heel-toe walking. Eventually, when they reach around 2-3 years old, they will walk normally like how everyone does. However, if your baby is very persistent in tiptoeing, it could be that there is an underlying reason for that. Research shows that tip toe walking for a very long time might signify that your baby has an illness like celebral palsy. It is needed that you try to bring it up to his doctor on your visit so it could be consulted properly.
•Twiddling Mommy’s Nipples
This refers to the act when babies play their mommy’s nipples like light pinching or circling it. It could be very uncomfortable for mommies but babies enjoy it a lot. If they are breastfeeding, it helps the baby to get more milk because the stimulation in mommy’s nipples can help release hormones that helps in production and release of milk. When kids get a little older, stopped breastfeeding but still does the twiddling when nervous or sleepy, this is because it causes them to relax and provides comfort.
•Fake Cough and Fake Sneeze
Babies tend to do this when he reach around 6 months old. Since babies still don’t know how to talk, their only form of communication is making sounds that are familar to people. Sometimes they fake cough, fake sneeze and even fake crying too. These are all normal as baby only wants to explore his capabilities. If your baby doesn’t do this, don’t be alarmed though since not everyone is really the same.
These are all part of baby’s journey in trying to explore and learn new things around him. I know, sometimes we get nervous when we are unsure of what’s the purpose of his acts. It is nice to share and read about baby’s journey so that we as parents will be able to guide them too and understand them better.
