When a woman gets pregnant, it is normal for her to experience morning sickness. This includes vomiting, feeling nausea, dizziness, change in appetite. However, pregnancy will never be the same exact experience from one woman to another. There are mommies whose symptoms are just very light while there are some who had it worse (like me, I was even hospitalized). For those who are unsure if their symptoms are because of pregnancy, here are some of the weird but purely because of pregnancy symptoms you might get to experience. Some of these are based on my experience and from other mommies I know.
Weird Pregnancy Symptoms
•Very Sensitive Sense of Smell
I could literally smell the soil on the ground from inside the car. I could smell mixed spices from cooking hotdogs. This is all because of your hormonal changes especially during your first trimester.
•The Metal Taste
Your sense of taste would become very off. You would even lose your appetite. You will also start to notice a metal-taste when you eat food. This condition is called Dysegusia and this happens because of incresed estogen and progesterone.
•Hating Raw Meat
About 30-40% of women around the world experiences this. Pregnancy made them hate raw meat. In my case, i can’t even look and smell it. It makes me want to puke all the time.
•Ptyalism Gravidarum
This condition refers to excessive secretion of saliva from your glands. Most of the time, we will have difficulty in swallowing the saliva and we need to carry around saliva cups, tissues and containers to spit our saliva into. It could last up to 3rd trimester. In my case, it disappeared when I was on my 7th month.
•Feeling Like the Room is Moving Around
I could feel this even when I’m laying down on my bed and even more when I get up. I feel totally lightheaded and dizzy. It’s like everything around me is spinning.
•Frequent Urination
This is often one of the first few signs of pregnancy . When you get pregnant, your hormones make your kidnew produce more urine. Also, when your baby gets bigger and bigger, his weight could be pressed to your bladder, making you want to pee all the time. Even at night, you would feel the need to pee around 3 times or more.
•Pregnancy Gingivitis
Because of hormonal changes, pregnant women are prone to gingivitis. This causes your gums to swell, appear red in color, much more sensitive and prone to bleed. In my case, even after giving birth, it didn’t heal that much until my baby is almost a year already.
When Will You Start Feeling Better?
On your 2nd trimester, things could be a lot better already. It doesn’t mean that the symptoms and weird conditions will now go away. Some may start to get better and some may stay until you deliver your baby. You just need to find yout how you could ease these conditions. Don’t forget to mention them to your doctor so you could get recommendations on how to get better.
Pregnancy is surely not an easy thing to go through. Seek help if you need it. Rest well and don’t force yourself to do things. Find support from people around you. Be courageous and remind yourself that a little life is forming inside you and you gotta be strong, Momma.
