What Chores Can My Toddler Do?

As our little one grows older, we start teaching them lessons that will soon be helpful for them. Simple chores should be part of those lessons too because as they grow, they should become more independent to their parents and they should learn how to do the chores for themselves too. It is a great way to bond with kids as well. So here is my list on what chores are safe to inreoduce to your toddlers aged 2-3 years old and how to successfully get your kids to learn them by heart.

•Throwing Their Trash to Bins

I started doing this with my baby’s own trash like wet nappies, cookies wrapper, torn papers, box of his toy. I would politely ask him to throw it to the trash bin and praise him for a job well done. I tell him stories of how throwing trash can save mother earth in a simple way.

•Folding Clean Clothes

It will be hard for him to fold daddy’s and mommy’s clothes since these would be quite huge for him to handle. What i did is that i started teaching him how to fold face towels, bibs, his own clothes, those that are light and easier for him to fold.

•Sweeping the Floor

In my case, I taught him how to do it using mini sweep broom and mini dust pan. Of course I guided him first how to do it. He felt like we were just playing but soon realized that he had helped me clean the mess on the floor and it made him exra happy.

•Cleaning the Table and Wiping High Chair’s Tray

After eating, i let him wipe the table and the tray on his high chair with wet rug towel. He would need help with it at first since cleaning the entire table would be quite hard for him too if he is still very little for it.

•Watering Plants

This is one of his favorite thing to do outside the house. He loves watering the plants with my instructions on how much water he should pour. He loves looking forward for the changes there would be as the plant grows.

•Clean up Mess After Playing

This includes picking up toys, putting them to their container, cleaning up the mess they made while playing. It is also one way to make them value their toys and take care of them. It will teach them that once they play with their toys and not keep them in place afterwards, their toys might get broken or worst, will be lost.

•Make up Their Bed After Sleep

Ask them nicely to tidy and arrange pillows on the bed, put sruffed toys on the corner, if they can’t fold blankets then help them with it. Be nice in asking them to do it, let it go if they refuse though. Its important not to spoil their mood when they are ready to get up and start their day.

•Putting Dirty Used Clothes to Laundry Room

Explain the importance of every task. Let them know how big help they are everytime they do the chores so they will be motivated as well in doing it especially the cleaning part.

Our kids need to learn doing chores from the early age as toddlers. Ask them to do 3 chores everyday. Soon, when they grow up, it will be much more appreciated that they are not too much dependent to their mom when it comes to doing these chores. Make them understand and observe you as you do it so that it will all be easier for both of you, and they won’t feel like you are passing on a burden to them. Make it fun too so that they will enjoy learning them. Goodluck mommy!
